What Arab Women Taught Me

It’s been more than six months in Jeddah already. Every day over here has been so eventful and memorable for me. Zo and I have made full use of the time we got to spend together and it has been a great experience. I love the fact that Jeddah has so much to offer to everyone. We literally go out everyday and still haven’t got bored of the place. The shopping malls and complexes offer you the best brands to shop. Most of the time we are seen strolling outside El Khayyat Centre or The Boulevard ogling at the shoes by Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin, Bags at Burberry, Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, dresses at Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta and Dolce Gabbana or accessories at Dior and YSL. Zo faces a tough time pulling me out of these stores but he is sweet enough to ask me if there is something I want to buy. Hell Yeah!! I want to buy everything!
I sometimes wish I had the impulsive shopping nature like the women here in Jeddah possess. They like it, they have it. Arab Women spell LUXURY as ORDINARY. I love how they are always dressed to kill coz when you look beautiful you feel beautiful. Makeup is always on fleek and there is no compromise on fashion with the abayas, bags and jewellery. It is safe to say that I have seen some of the most fashionable women here. Whoever says Saudi women are oppressed have no idea of the lavish lifestyle they have here. I agree they don’t have the privilege to drive but they do everything else that all the women in the world usually do. Ah yes! That too with a huge difference. They do it luxuriously.
The basic motto of an Arab woman is Shop. Eat. Repeat. Go out and eat the best food, wear the best stuff and have the best life.

Forever and ever,

Samreen Ahmed
